The North Stars and Islanders have completed a blockbuster trade, with the North Stars acquiring elite forward Mitch Marner and young centre Aatu Räty in exchange for Troy Terry, the 59th overall pick and $225 cash.
The deal gives last season's Lifetimepool runners-up another established offensive star, while the Islanders continue an eventful offseason that has already seen Jason Robertson leave the organization.
Trade Breakdown
Islanders Receive
- Troy Terry
- 59th Overall Pick
- $225 Cash
North Stars Receive
- Mitch Marner
- Aatu Räty
North Stars Add Another Elite Scorer
After finishing second overall last season with 1,240 points, the North Stars have added another major offensive weapon to their roster.
Marner enters the 2026-27 season following a productive first year with the Vegas Golden Knights, recording 24 goals and 56 assists for 80 points in 81 games.
The 29-year-old playmaker has established himself as one of the NHL's most consistent offensive producers, including a career-high 102-point season in 2024-25.
For the North Stars, Marner represents proven production and another legitimate top-end forward capable of making an immediate impact in Lifetimepool's scoring format.
With only 12 forwards counting toward a team's final score, acquiring another established high-scoring player creates an opportunity to improve the club's counting lineup.
The North Stars also acquire Aatu Räty, adding a younger player with potential for further development.
The 23-year-old Vancouver Canucks centre recorded 14 points in 66 NHL games last season. While his offensive production remains limited, he provides an additional young roster asset with an opportunity to establish a larger NHL role.
Islanders Acquire Terry and $225 Cash
The Islanders receive an established offensive forward of their own in Troy Terry.
The Anaheim Ducks winger produced 19 goals and 38 assists for 57 points in 61 games during the 2025-26 season.
Despite missing significant time, Terry maintained a strong scoring pace and demonstrated that he remains a productive offensive contributor.
There is, however, an important availability consideration entering the upcoming season.
Terry underwent hip surgery in June to address an impingement and labral tear. Anaheim subsequently announced an expected recovery period of five to six months, with Terry projected to miss at least the opening month of the 2026-27 season.
The Islanders will need to account for that recovery timeline, but a healthy Terry would give the team an established offensive contributor.
The Islanders also receive the 59th overall selection, a late fifth-round pick, along with $225 in cash.
The cash provides immediate financial value, while the draft selection offers another opportunity to add a prospect or use the pick in a future transaction.
Another Major Move for the Islanders
This latest transaction follows another significant Islanders trade involving the defending champion Leafs.
Earlier this offseason, the Islanders moved Jason Robertson to Toronto in exchange for the 37th overall pick and $425 cash.
With the Marner deal now completed, the Islanders have generated a combined $650 in cash through the two transactions.
Looking at both deals together, the Islanders have received the following assets:
- Troy Terry
- 37th Overall Pick
- 59th Overall Pick
- $650 Cash
In return, the Islanders have moved Jason Robertson, Mitch Marner and Aatu Räty.
That represents a significant transformation of the Islanders' roster. The club has exchanged two established high-end scorers and a young centre for Terry, additional draft opportunities and substantial cash consideration.
The long-term outcome will depend heavily on Terry's health, the development of the players selected with the acquired picks and how the Islanders use their additional financial resources.
North Stars Strengthen Their Championship Push
For the North Stars, this deal is another significant move following a season in which they finished second overall in Lifetimepool.
Marner brings established offensive production, while Räty adds a younger player who could develop into a more meaningful contributor over time.
The North Stars surrender a productive forward in Terry, along with cash and a late draft selection, but receive an established 80-point scorer without moving a premium draft pick.
With the Leafs already making several major offseason transactions, the North Stars have now added another significant name to the Lifetimepool trade market.
The North Stars add star power. The Islanders add cash, draft capital and an established scorer of their own. Another major offseason trade is officially in the books.
