On March 6th, 2024, the Islanders and Oilers finalized a trade that saw the Islanders acquire a valuable roster spot by bringing in two aging Hall of Fame forwards, Joe Pavelski and Alex Ovechkin. In return, the Islanders sent two draft picks—a 1st and a 3rd rounder—to the Oilers. As part of the agreement, the Islanders were also obligated to send a future consideration player to the Oilers by August 1, 2024. The Oilers have now received Ryan Donato (F) to fulfill the future consideration portion of the deal.
