Lifetimepool Rules and Regulations

Lifetimepool Rules & Regulations
Official rules governing Lifetimepool franchise ownership, regular-season competition, roster management, drafting, trades, league governance and the Lifetimepool Playoff Cup.
1. League Overview
- Lifetimepool is a lifelong keeper fantasy hockey league. Once a player is acquired by a franchise, that player remains the exclusive property of that franchise until traded, sold, released or otherwise transferred under league rules.
- Lifetimepool is based on long-term franchise management rather than annual roster resets.
- The league's primary annual competitions are:
- Lifetimepool Regular Season Championship
- Lifetimepool Playoff Cup
- League competition, player ownership, draft assets and transaction history continue from season to season.
2. Governance & Collective Bargaining Agreement
2.1 Rule Changes
- Formal rule changes are considered during the offseason.
- A rule change requires approval from at least 60% of active franchise owners.
- A decision adopted by the required 60% threshold may only be reversed through another qualifying vote.
2.2 Disputes & Unaddressed Situations
- Issues not specifically addressed by this rulebook may be brought before the General Managers.
- Where a league vote is required, the standard approval threshold is 60%.
- The Commissioner may administer existing rules but may not create a permanent new rule without league approval.
3. Entry Fees & Prize Structure
3.1 Annual League Fee
- $150 per franchise per season
- $130 allocated to the Regular Season Championship
- $20 allocated to the Playoff Cup
- League fees are due by Draft Day unless otherwise communicated by the Commissioner.
3.2 Prize Distribution — 12-Team League
| Competition | Finish | Prize |
|---|---|---|
| Regular Season | 1st Place | $930 |
| Regular Season | 2nd Place | $460 |
| Regular Season | 3rd Place | $170 |
| Playoff Cup | Champion | $240 |
Prize amounts may be adjusted if league membership or approved league funding changes.
4. Rosters & Player Ownership
4.1 Franchise Rosters
- The historical franchise roster originated at 30 skaters plus 3 goalies.
- Franchise rosters may increase or decrease through valid trades and other approved transactions. Lifetimepool does not require every franchise to maintain an identical roster size.
- A franchise may not fall below 19 total players, including at least 1 goalie.
4.2 Exclusive Ownership
A player may have only one active Lifetimepool franchise owner at a time. Ownership continues indefinitely unless the player is traded, sold, released or otherwise transferred according to league rules.
4.3 Released Players
Once properly released, a player returns to the league's available-player pool and may subsequently be acquired according to the applicable draft, waiver or free-agent procedures in effect at that time.
5. Regular-Season Scoring
The Lifetimepool Regular Season Championship is determined by cumulative NHL regular-season statistics.
5.1 Forwards & Defensemen
| Statistic | Fantasy Points |
|---|---|
| Goal | 1 FP |
| Assist | 1 FP |
5.2 Goalies
| Statistic | Fantasy Points |
|---|---|
| Goal | 1 FP |
| Assist | 1 FP |
| Win | 2 FP |
| Overtime / Shootout Loss | 1 FP |
| Shutout | No additional bonus |
5.3 Counting Lineup
Each franchise's official regular-season total consists of its highest-scoring:
- 12 forwards
- 6 defensemen
- 1 goalie
All other rostered players remain reserves and may become counting players automatically as cumulative point totals change.
5.4 Regular-Season Tiebreakers
If two or more franchises finish with identical official team totals, ties are resolved sequentially:
- 13th Forward fantasy points
- 14th Forward fantasy points
- 7th Defenseman fantasy points
- If still tied, the franchises remain tied
6. Annual Entry Draft
6.1 Player Eligibility
Any player not already owned by a Lifetimepool franchise may be drafted regardless of:
- Age
- Country
- Professional, junior or development league
- Current NHL status
6.2 Draft Structure
- The annual Lifetimepool Entry Draft consists of 5 rounds.
- Each franchise begins with one selection per round unless picks have been traded.
- The draft is linear, not serpentine.
- The same franchise order applies to each round, subject to traded picks.
6.3 Draft Order
- Draft order is based on the previous Lifetimepool regular-season standings.
- Last place selects first.
- First place selects last.
6.4 Draft-Pick Trading
Current and future Lifetimepool Entry Draft selections may be traded. The official Lifetimepool draft-pick register determines the current owner of each pick.
6.5 Mandatory Pre-Draft Drops
A franchise must release one player for every draft pick it owns for that season's Entry Draft.
- 5 picks owned = 5 required drops
- 3 picks owned = 3 required drops
- No picks owned = no mandatory draft drops
6.6 Goalie Drop / Draft Requirement
If a franchise releases one or more goalies as part of its required draft drops, it must draft at least the same number of goalies during that Entry Draft.
6.7 Draft Administration
The Commissioner will announce the draft date, communication method, timing rules and operating procedures for each season. The league may use a live draft, slow draft or another approved format without changing the underlying five-round Entry Draft rules.
7. Trades
7.1 Trade Deadline
The trade deadline is established and published for each season by the league. Historically this has been tied to NHL All-Star timing or another date agreed upon by the General Managers.
7.2 Trade Confirmation
- All participating franchises must confirm the transaction.
- A trade is not official until submitted to and recorded by the league.
7.3 Trade Review
- Trades may be posted as Pending for a three-day review period.
- Any General Manager may request a league veto vote.
- A minimum 60% league vote is required to overturn a trade.
7.4 Transfer of Fantasy Points
7.5 Permitted Trade Assets
Trades may include:
- Players
- Current draft picks
- Future draft picks
- Cash where otherwise permitted by league rules
- Future Considerations
7.6 Future Considerations
Future Considerations may represent a player to be named later and must be satisfied by the league-established deadline associated with the transaction.
Conditional transactions based on uncertain future events are not permitted unless specifically approved under league rules.
7.7 No Player Loans
Players may not be temporarily traded or loaned between franchises. A player traded away may not be traded back from the acquiring franchise to the original franchise for at least one calendar year.
8. Player Sales
- Players may be sold for money only during the offseason.
- A 10% league transaction fee applies to approved player sales.
- Applicable league fees are directed to league funds, prizes or another approved league purpose.
9. Franchise Ownership & Team Transfers
9.1 Franchise Sale or Transfer
- A Lifetimepool franchise may be transferred or sold to a prospective new owner.
- The prospective owner must be presented to the league for approval.
- Approval requires at least 60% of active franchise owners.
- The league may consider long-term commitment, participation and competitive integrity when reviewing an applicant.
No franchise transfer is final until league approval is complete.
10. Expansion
10.1 Expansion Approval
- A prospective expansion owner must submit an application to the league.
- Expansion requires at least 60% approval from active franchise owners.
10.2 Expansion Option 1 — Expansion Draft
- $200 expansion fee, excluding the normal annual league fee.
- Existing franchises may protect up to 20 skaters and 2 goalies.
- Unprotected players become eligible for the expansion draft.
- The expansion franchise completes its roster using the expansion draft, Entry Draft and available-player pool as applicable.
10.3 Expansion Option 2 — No Expansion Draft
- No expansion fee.
- The new franchise builds through Entry Draft selections and the available-player pool.
11. Lifetimepool Playoff Cup
The Lifetimepool Playoff Cup is an annual postseason competition conducted during the NHL playoffs. It is separate from the Lifetimepool Regular Season Championship.
11.1 Player Eligibility
A franchise may select only players who:
- are on that franchise's Lifetimepool roster when the selection window is open; and
- belong to an NHL club that has qualified for the NHL playoffs.
11.2 Playoff Cup Scoring Roster
Each franchise may select:
- 6 forwards
- 4 defensemen
- 1 goalie
If a franchise does not own enough playoff-qualified players to fill one or more positions, the franchise may submit an incomplete roster. Empty slots score 0 points.
11.3 Tiebreak Reserves
Where eligible players are available, each franchise also selects:
- 7th Forward
- 8th Forward
- 5th Defenseman
These players are tiebreak reserves only and do not contribute to the normal Cup team total.
11.4 Playoff Cup Scoring
Playoff Cup scoring uses NHL postseason statistics only and follows the same fantasy-point values as the regular season.
| Player Type | Statistic | Fantasy Points |
|---|---|---|
| All Players | Goal | 1 FP |
| All Players | Assist | 1 FP |
| Goalies | Win | 2 FP |
| Goalies | Overtime / Shootout Loss | 1 FP |
| Goalies | Shutout | No additional bonus |
11.5 Playoff Cup Tiebreakers
If two or more franchises finish with identical Playoff Cup totals, ties are resolved sequentially:
- 7th Forward fantasy points
- 8th Forward fantasy points
- 5th Defenseman fantasy points
- If still tied, the franchises remain tied
11.6 Cup Roster Lock
Once a Playoff Cup roster is submitted and officially locked, it becomes a postseason roster snapshot. Subsequent Lifetimepool trades, drops, acquisitions or ownership changes do not alter the locked Cup roster.
12. Disciplinary Actions
Conduct that undermines competitive fairness, league integrity or established rules may result in disciplinary action.
Available penalties may include:
- movement of draft selections to the end of a round
- forfeiture of draft position
- forfeiture of draft picks
- transaction reversal in exceptional circumstances
- other remedies approved by the league
Significant disciplinary decisions are subject to the governance and voting provisions of the CBA.
13. Exiting the League
13.1 Approved Franchise Transfer
An owner may sell or transfer a franchise to a prospective replacement owner, subject to league approval.
13.2 Auction Exit
Where the approved exit procedure uses a player auction, the exiting franchise may designate 3 players for auction. Auction proceeds are payable to the exiting owner less the applicable 10% league fee.
13.3 Death of an Owner
In the event of the death of a franchise owner, the league may assume interim administration of the franchise while a new owner is identified and approved.
The league will make reasonable efforts to preserve the franchise, roster and historical continuity.
14. Official League Records & Statistics
14.1 Lifetimepool.com System of Record
Lifetimepool.com is the official league record for matters maintained within the Lifetimepool Manager system, including:
- franchise rosters and player ownership

Third-party fantasy platforms, including Fantrax, may be used as a convenient comparison or reference, but do not supersede the official Lifetimepool record.
14.3 Corrections
The Commissioner may correct data-entry, identity-matching or statistical-processing errors where required to bring Lifetimepool records into conformity with the authoritative NHL data and the rules contained in this document.
15. Grandfathered & Legacy Rules
