The 2009 Lifetimepool Season was one of the most exciting
campaigns of the modern LTP era. The
Vikings entered the season as the top contender, even after winning 4 consecutive
championships. As the season progressed
many surprising challengers threatened the Vikings “drive for five”. The Oilers were one of the first teams to
make an admirable push for first and had some of the best players in every
category, however their push fell short as they could not tweak their roster
in the final stretch.
From early in the season Roma made their intentions clear that they wanted to win the championship this season. They made many moves entering the deadline that kept them in contention for the top spot. Though, their major turning point of the season came with typical lifetimepool controversy, when they completed a “deadline deal” that pushed them over the Vikings for the remainder of the season. That withstanding, the managerial team of Corrado and Daniele Balducci worked aggressively throughout the season for their victory. They exemplified in true LTP fashion strong managerial skills from drafting, trading and negotiating their team to the top and join the likes of the Vikings, Devils and Blackhawks as the only teams to ever win the prized LTP Championship.
The Vikings did fall short, but their streak of consecutive victories in such a commanding fashion will be forever engraved in LTP history. Though, as the Vikings reign has ended, a new champion has arisen in Roma. Roma will be the first team to try to make their own streak of championships wins, however there are many team are anxiously awaiting the chance to steal the glory.
As we look forward to the upcoming season, the health of the Lifetimepool league has never been better. The 2008-2009 campaign was a memorable season that even included the expansion of the Hitmen. Their roster was competitive and their future looks very bright. This year we have seen also parity across the league unlike many other years, as most teams can seriously threaten the championship title this upcoming season. There are many bright spots in this league as we see teams have become wiser and hungrier for the championship more than ever.
