2006-2007 CHAMPIONS - VIKINGS
On April 18, 2006 the Vikings were the first team to ever win "back-to-back" championships*. The team was masterfully managed by Mark Bortoletto and Mike Rebellato to a record second league title. The Vikings made timely trades to improve the club, and continue to be one of the most talented teams beginning with their scouting. The Vikings are also currently the top ranked team to contend for a third title in 2006-2007 and this seasons LTP Playoff Cup.
The Vikings held off their arch rivals Blackhawks with a comfortable 28 point lead, and were 283 points ahead of the exciting third place Islanders.
The Blackhawks became the first team in history to finish in 4 consecitive years* in the top 3. Though, miss timed trades and an aging team could not help them hold their few moments at the top position.
Congratulations are extend to the Islanders who came through with their promise to finish "Third". A season started with questionable management proved that mindset, strategy, and intestinal fortitude could lead any team to the top. The Islanders also showed late season heroics to fight off the attacking Leafs.
Honurable mentions to the Coyotes who finished an uncontested 7th in their second season, and the Leafs and Oilers who might be two of the most improved teams! The future of LTP has never been this exciting!
